The pandemic put on hold the plans for the statue to Tommy Gemmell being constructed.
The plan for a statue for one of Lanarkshire’s favourite football heroes is continuing despite delays due to Covid.
Tommy Gemmell, part of Celtic’s famous 1967 European Cup winning side, was due to have a £40,000 sculpture constructed in his honour alongside the “Welcome to Craigneuk” sign on Glasgow Road.
Sadly, the pandemic put the plans on hold as well as other logistical pressures, namely a change of location for the statue.
The new site has now been secured and will be made public in due course.
